Baxter - Tate Corridor

This project was located on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. This project had two main areas of focus. The first was to redesign the streetscape along Baxter Street at the intersection with Lumpkin Street. The second focus was to redesign the plazas outside the Miller Learning Center, bookstore, and Tate Student Center. The goal for this project was connecting the space. The original spaces were not well defined. There was a need to bring all the spaces together and provide a welcoming place for people to gather. These rectilinear forms aid individuals in traveling to the different exit points of the corridor as well as provide everyone with a place to sit, relax, socialize, and enjoy the spaces. To provide better access to Tate Plaza, Baxter Street has been redesigned for pedestrians. A roundabout at the intersection of Baxter and Lumpkin Streets with a fountain provides a walkway for pedestrians. It will aid in slowing traffic to make a safer space to cross. This streetscape provides accessibility and connectivity for people and spaces.
